Late Summer

A dreamy little dahlia to close the final days of a sweet, but way too short summer.
With love and hugs.

Seaside Heights, NJ

I usually don't think about this town so much,
but I can't help but feel the pain.
Of fire.
This is a photo I took last Fall,
when hurricane Sandy met the roller coaster.
After a year of rebuilding, Seaside Heights
has yet another major challenge.
They've seen fire and and they've seen rain.

Seamus Heaney

"If you know a bit
about the universe
It's because you've taken it in
Like that.
Looked as hard
As you look into yourself,
Into the rat hole,
through the vetch and dock
that mantled it.
Because you've laid your cheek
Against the rush clump
And known soft stone to break
On the quarry floor."
~from "A Herbal"
Seamus Heaney- may he rest in peace.

September

Blair Falls.
There's reflection in the pool
that forms below this little waterfall.
It's back to school time.
I remember the excitement I used to feel.
First, for myself  as a student.
Then, for my children.
The warm September sun welcomed
teachers, bus drivers, coaches, and friends.
 Those days are long gone now.
The buses still roll through town,
the Moms are stocking up with snacks,
the retail stores are stockpiled with goods,
and I am marveling at the reflections in the pool.
The reflection of self.
How I see myself, and how others see me.

Next Time

"Next time what I'd do
is look at the earth
before saying anything.
I'd stop just before going into a house
and be an emperor for a minute
and listen better to the wind
or to the air being still."

Mixed Emotions

I think this photo suits my feelings today.
I'm feeling like it's still Summer,
yet there's a little hint of Autumn from the morning chill.
One stem is holding on to the sun's rays,
while the other is drooping into mother nature's laws.
As much as I love the fall,
I don't look forward to the winter that follows.
I'm hoping to enjoy every beautiful day that comes my way.
I hope you can too!

Love

After any struggle,
any storm,
Love,
like the sunlight
restores balance and peace.

As the Wild Ones Eat

"The grand show is eternal.
It is always sunrise somewhere;
the dew is never dried all at once;
a shower is forever falling;
vapor is ever rising.
Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming,
on sea and continents and islands,
each in its turn,
as the round earth rolls."
~John Muir

On Being Content

The dictionary defines content as "happy, satisfied".
When we had our dog 'Mellie', I loved when she would
sit outside in the sun or shade and simply enjoy the sights and sounds.
She was content.
When I was outside the other day I happened to look up
at the top of my front yard, and this is what I saw.
A little fawn, content in the grass,
enjoying the sights and sounds.
She reminded me of Mellie.

Great Blue Heron

"Every day I see or hear something
that more or less kills me with delight,
that leaves me like a needle
in the haystack of light."

Time

And how it flies!
I know we've all heard it time and again,
but I'm really surprised at how it really does FLY!
Hard to imagine, but
It was a year ago that we were all packed up and flying
to the Midwest to share the Love.
There was an excitement in the air like I've never experienced.
The marriage of your Daughter, the gathering of long lost family and friends,
party central in a new city
but most importantly,
the dreams come true.
We have grown to love Milwaukee, Wisconsin;
thanks to the little love bugs that call her Home.

The Deer

DEER WISDOM  I love the way the doe knows how to go
through the tall brambles: She ambles
her hips first to one side,
then another; tosses her nose high
to sniff the trails of air; and
proffers only a passing glance to
the chickadee on his slanted
branch. She knows the way;
she knows the turn of a hoof print
here, to the right of the wild rose brier;
there, past the tip of the raspberry twig;
she knows the sun even before
his fine arced dome appears
on the eastern horizon, and
she goes that way,
into the still of the dew
into the hills of the morning
in through that path between the thorns
that is so hard for us to see. ~Pat Campbell Carlson

With love and hugs.

Saturday

I love quiet, sunny mornings on my porch.
Sipping fresh coffee, admiring the birds, the green,
the blue, and this year, lots of red.
Hope you enjoy the weekend, friends.
