Silent Spring

If you logged on to "Google" today,
you would have seen a tribute.
Today is the anniversary of the birthday
of Rachel Louise Carson.
As an environmentalist, she documented
the detrimental effects of commercial pesticides
on the environment; particularly birds, as early as 1940.
In 1950 she turned her attention to conservation, and the
problems caused by synthetic pesticides.
Her book  Silent Spring  led to a nationwide ban on DDT,
and inspired an environmental movement that led to the creation
of the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Her efforts allow me the pleasure of
 observing the Bluebirds that
visit the little house every Spring.
They are simply spectacular!
Birthday Love to her!

Wild and Free

Traveling through the local neighborhoods
I've marveled at the beauty
that only
A wild Dogwood
shares.

Spring

It always amazes me.
Deep within the forests and woodlands
during the deep, cold Winter months that have just passed,
there is an  abundance of color and fragrance
just waiting to burst and surprise us.
How I Love May!

My Lucky Day

Yay!
I'm in Milwaukee!
Enjoying a Mother's Day weekend
with my little rolling stone.
The flowers are starting to bloom,
Lake Michigan is ice free,
the new bicycle is all tuned up,
 the city is calling!
TGIF!
With love and hugs.

Shadows

"We are shaped by our thoughts;
we become what we think.
When the mind is pure,
joy follows like a shadow
that never leaves."

To Tim

It's funny how the waves keep rolling,
The tides keep changing,
The sun always rises and sets.
Spring trails Winter.
Daybreak never fails.
New moons develop,
without falter.
28 years ago on this date,
A Love was born that will never die.
It grows stronger with each passing sunset.
I am so proud to be your Mom.
Happy Birthday, Tim.
With love and hugs.

The Happiness Challenge

Nobody Cares That You're Miserable, You Might As Well Be Happy

"It occurs to me that the peculiarity of most things we think of as fragile is how tough they really are. There were tricks we did with eggs, as children, to show how they were, in reality, tiny, load-bearing marble halls; while the beat of the wings of a butterfly in the right place, we are told, can create a hurricane across the ocean. Hearts may break, but hearts are the toughest of  muscles, able to pump for a lifetime, seventy times a minute, and scarcely falter along the way. Even dreams, the most delicate and intangible of things, can prove remarkably difficult to kill. Stories, like people and butterflies and songbird's eggs and human hearts and dreams, are also fragile things, made up of nothing stronger or more lasting than twenty-six letters and a handful of punctuation marks. Or they are words on the air, composed of sounds and ideas-abstract, invisible, gone once they've been spoken-and what could be more frail than that? But some stories, small simple ones about setting out on adventures or people doing wonders, tales of miracles and monsters, have outlasted all the people who told them, and some have outlasted the lands in which they were created."
~Neil Gaiman,  Fragile Things

The Two Twenty-Thirds

 I have thousands of photos.
But.
Not even one
of
my Mom and my Husband together.
Today I celebrate them!
The Birthday kids.
The "two twenty-thirds".
So, to both of you:
For your unconditional Love, thank you.
For your strength, I admire you.
For your courage, I respect you.
For your efforts and steadfastness,
I appreciate you.
For the fun that you bring to my life,
I am forever grateful.
For all of  the laughs, you should be on TV!
 I laugh every single day!
And,
For everyone that is blessed to know you,
and to Love you,
I am certain they see your beauty.
Your kindness.
Your gentle & funny ways.
Your Love.
Your stubbornness!!
Happy Birthday, Mom and
Happy Birthday, Wes.
"May you stay
forever young."
You will always be 25 years apart.
No matter what!!

With all of my Love,
For all of my life.
Happy Birthday!

Spring

"For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in the land."
~Anon

A Sense of Calm

"The story of our life
is written in white tulips
set in the Quiet garden,
in tomatoes ripening on the vine,
in puppies bouncing through
the great snowdrifts.
It is inscribed with the scent
of deep purple lilacs,
the satiny touch of eggplant,
the swift falling of golden leaves."

Paper Flowers

Not an endangered species here,
and there is no fragrance.
No water required,
no sunlight,
no spritz.
This is a flower for your heart.
Handed with love from Quinn to Tiff.

The Ladies

We don't have any more pets.
So to speak.
These gentle little creatures
that peek in our windows and doors
are looking rather content on this beautiful Spring morning.
And their bellies are full!
Happy Friday!
