My Little Chickadee

"I only went out
for a walk
and finally concluded
to stay out
'till sundown,
for going out,
I found,
was really going in."
~John Muir~

A Bud, then A Blossom

language the bud;
action the fruit

Thanks. Giving.

I was pleasantly surprised
when I opened the front door
this morning.
A book I had ordered
was waiting.
It's by Karen Waldron.
Photographer, Author, Lawyer,
Mother, Wife, Cook. And more.
She speaks about
each of us
being beautifully different.
And on my walk
this morning,
I kept going over in my mind
one of her quotes.
Here it is:

"Not what we have,
but what we enjoy,
constitutes
our abundance."

~Epicurus~

And so...
if you sit lonely on a diner stool,
or you are surrounded by laughter
at a table set for 20,
I hope you enjoy
your Thanks. Giving.

Bittersweet

I love Bittersweet.
It is a Thanksgiving Blossom
in my heart.
I took these pictures
at White Lake in Hardwick.
It was quiet and serene.
The buds just sort of lay quietly
waiting for the birds.
Ripening in the sun.

Happy Monday!
With love and hugs.

Powerless

We had a bad storm.
Tuesday night.
Strong wind, hail, heavy rain.
And a cut off of electricity.
Into Wednesday.
So, I snuck out with my camera.
Had an enjoyable couple of hours
and will share some photos in the days to come.
Here are some shots of local damage.
I appreciate waking up
and flipping on a light switch;
And having it work!

Happy Thursday!

The Two Yoots

"There is a fountain of youth:
It is your mind,
your talents,
the creativity you bring
to your life
and the lives
of the people you love.
When you learn
to tap this source,
you will truly
have defeated age."
~Sophia Loren~

Because there are so many November birthdays~
And as Joe Pesci would say:
"The Two Yoots"....

Stay forever young!
You know who you are!

11.12.10

I'm many miles away
from my little Rolling Stone.
On her Birthday.
It's dark and it's quiet.
I met her 27 years ago.
And She stole my heart.
And my soul.
So what do I say?
Ah..Happy Birthday! Check.
Be light on your feet! Check.
Be safe and sound. Check.
Be happy in your heart. Forever.

We Miss You Tiff, Have fun and Sparkle!
With tons of love and hugs...

Thistle

In the language of flowers, the thistle is an ancient Celtic symbol of nobility of character as well as of birth, for the wounding or provocation of a thistle yields punishment. For this reason the thistle is the symbol of the Order of the Thistle, a high chivalric order of Scotland.

Another story is that a bare foot Viking attacker stepped on one at night and cried out, so alerting the defenders of a Scottish castle. Whatever the justification, the national flower of Scotland is the Thistle. It is found in many Scottish symbols and as the name of several Scottish football clubs. Carnegie Mellon University features the Thistle in its crest.

And you can no longer see
Just let my love throw a spark

Back Home

It's quiet once again.
And now, it's
back to business
as usual.
My little Rolling Stone
took in a few awards
from her law school this
past weekend.
My heart is swollen.
We shared the night,
celebrated her Birthday early,
joined the ranks of the
North Folks,
dined on lobster,
dessert for 3 Birthdays,
then zipped back South
with Dolly via Stella!
If ya' know what I mean.

Home Sweet Home.
With love and hugs and Gratitude.

It's Thursday, and I'm Getting Excited!

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold,
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

~Robert Frost

True Beauty

"While something or someone
who has been declared
commercially, aesthetically desirable
might have the power
to incite lust or longing,
only true beauty
has the power
to stir the soul."

Well, Hello November!

"A few days ago
I walked along the edge of the lake
and was treated
to the crunch and rustle of leaves
with each step I made.
The acoustics of this season
are different and all sounds, no matter how hushed,
are as crisp
as autumn air."
~ Eric Sloane

Happy November!
And, Happy Birthday, Kelsey!
With love and hugs.
