Ring Out the Old

So, 2012 comes to a close.
Thanks for stopping by this little blog of mine.
I look forward to continuing my story,
my love of flowers, words, and photography.
The past year was kind to me.
I enjoyed the commitment of love between my
daughter and her new husband.
I enjoyed the many accomplishments of my dedicated son.
I enjoyed unconditional Love from my husband.
I marveled at the strength of my Mom.
And the year was sad also.
I lost my Mother In Law.
Friends lost loved ones.
Hurricane sandy destroyed the shore.
Guns killed lots of innocence.
But I close my end of the year post
on a high note.
I am full of gratitude for my life.
I look forward to 2013 full of excitement and possibility.
New knowledge, new ideas, new opportunity.
And my new boots!
Thanks for the Love.
Blessings to all.

Deer

They visit every day.
They peek in the front door,
and then in the back.
They are quiet,
and cautious.
They always come together.
3, now 5.
They love cracked corn.
Happy Monday!

Snow

Pretty quiet these days in the snow fall world.
Chicago is breaking records
with unmeasurable snowfall.
Ski shop keepers must be a bit antsy,
And skiers, well, they must be disappointed.
We haven't had to plow this year!
(YET!)
However,
Looking at this little Snow Owl,
he's sharing a tiny wink;
rest assured, it will be here!!
How soon?
Happy Snow Dreams.

My Lucky Day

12.12.12
Hello, again!
I've missed my silly blog.
Every once in a while I felt a little heart tug.
It was my Petals and Boots tug.
It was calling me.
Calling me back.
I almost felt like I abandoned something that I love.
It told me that it was time to play with photos and
random thoughts.
And Love.
It's funny. I haven't made any changes,
I just sort of took a break, digested,
and then today,
I decided to give it a whirl!
Low and behold, my photo uploaded!
I've been reading that 12.12.12 is a lucky day.
And yes, it is for me too!
Thanks for stopping by,
I hope you come back often,
I will continue.....with my little story.
Love and hugs.

Hmmm....Trouble With Blogger

I planned on sharing some thoughts and photos today, and the title of my post was going to be "Reflections". However, it appears that Google and Blogger are looking to make a little bit of money from the blog world. I am not certain if I am going to change accounts, or stick with Blogger. As I understand it, in order for me to add any photos to my blog, I need to pay Google. Not certain I'm ready to do that. In the meantime, it's probably good that you don't have to spend any time on Petals and Boots, after all, one month from today... is Christmas! Better get busy!

Rosie, A Sweet Flower of Love

"Mama was my greatest teacher,
a teacher of compassion, love
and fearlessness. If love is sweet
as a flower,
then my mother is that sweet
flower of love."

Birthday Time!

on a cold, snowflaked night
we welcomed a baby girl
that made us a family.

Happy Birthday, Tiff!

All Is Calm

Good ridden, Sandy.
Who would have ever thought that the Jersey shore as we know it would be demolished?
The homes and businesses have stood strong forever.
Many of my best childhood memories are of the great times in Seaside Park and Deauville Beach.
Mantoloking was our route home.
Not any more.
But luckily, we are all safe and sound.
Back in business, so to speak.
Our lights are working and we are warm.
I rode with a group of bikers today.
It was a ride to honor two local young men,
whose lives were tragically taken way too early.
Part of our route was through "Sandy" ravaged Sussex County.
Many homes are still in the dark.
My heart is heavy for the families with small children,
and the elderly.
So, In retrospect, we had it easy.
My high note of the week was a visit with the newlyweds
in New Hope, PA. Thanks, Steph, for getting married!
Now, it's back to work,
back to the old normal.
I hope the storm left you with a good memory
or a new friendship,
and may the future bring you bright beginnings.
With love and hugs.

Hurricane Sandy

Much of the East Coast is preparing for "Hurricane Sandy". For the past few days the weather forecasters have been predicting a catastrophic storm like we haven't seen in mega years.
I went on a little photo shoot this morning, I wanted to capture some of the fall leaves before they're blown from their branches.
These are a few, followed by a shot of the sky in Blairstown,
New Jersey.
I expect we'll loose our electricity, and experience Mother Nature in one of her wicked moods combined with a Full Hunter's Moon!
Love and Hugs.

A Little Golden Village

The Autumn leaves that surround us in the hills of Northwestern New Jersey have a very strong concentration of golden yellow this year. I took this photo at Millbrook Village recently, and I love the contrast of the  blackening barn boards and the yellow leaves. I've noticed in my travels that I am particularly fond of those huge trees with the dark black tree trunks and the yellow leaves. And, those beautiful black horse fences with the backdrop of  crisp, green grass. And the contrast of beautiful black cows and crisp green grass. It's a beautiful season! May it be sweet to thee!

When The Green Fern Turns Red

"I'm sure the red fern has grown
and has covered the two little mounds.
I know it is still there, hiding its secret
beneath those long, red leaves,
but it won't be hidden from me
for part of my life
is buried there too.
Yes, I know it is still there,
for in my heart I believe
the legend of the sacred red fern."

October

"October is the fallen leaf,
but it is also a wider horizon

A Simple Thought

We are all tied to the Ocean.
And when we go back to the sea,
whether it be to sail or to watch-
we are going back from

Flowers at Stonewall Kitchen

After a whirlwind of a wedding,
we headed North to a little town
on the coastal side of Maine.
Our hearts were joyful, our songs were sung.
The weather celebrated our return.
There was boating, beering, and lobster.
New wheels, new destinations,
and good, old fashioned, family Love.

Thanks again, T, K & Co.
xoxo

If you should find yourself up in York, Maine, and you love cooking and  flowers, be certain to stop in and have a glimpse at the beauty of the gardens at Stonewall Kitchen. You'll be glad you did!
