Peace

"To enjoy good health,
to bring true happiness to one's family,
to bring peace to all,
one must first discipline and control one's own mind
If a man can control his mind
he can find the way
to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue
will naturally come to him.

John Lennon

I will always remember hearing about the death of John.
We lived at Honey Hill Farm when he was assassinated.
I used to listen to early morning radio instead of using an alarm clock to awaken.
It was early morning when the  radio host announced that John had been shot.
Only twice in my life have I been this shocked.
Both times, a John.
Kennedy and Lennon.
Peace to all.

December White

There's something about white.
 In December.
It's quiet.
It's peaceful.
It's pure.
It's beautiful.

Weather or Not...

The weather forecasters are busy today.
With an unusually warm day on tap,
they're keeping their eyes
on a chance of  a significant snow fall
just in time for Thanksgiving Day travels.
"Just before death
of flowers,
and before they
are buried in snow,
there comes a festival
season
when nature is all aglow."
~Anon

Feeling Grateful

It's been quite chilly here lately.
The winds have kicked up.
The leaves have all fallen,
The days are shorter.
Winter is fast approaching.
We're getting ready
To celebrate Thanksgiving
this week.
My heart is swollen with gratitude.
And Love.

Pink

I was blessed
with my own little bundle of pink!
I was certain that I would do things differently.
Time would be on my side.
I would sort of re-invent the wheel so to speak.
Boy, was I wrong.
Time flew.
From new born to toddler.
Toddler to teenager.
Before I knew it,
she was in college.
She was married.
Now, she awaits her own little bundle of pink.
My Birthday wish to my daughter
is
time.
Time to enjoy all of life's little moments.
Time to enjoy life's big moments.
Time to enjoy her every moment.
Sprinkled with confetti!
Happy Birthday, Tiff.

In Blackwater Woods

Look, the trees
are turning
their own bodies
into pillars

of light,
are giving off the rich
fragrance of cinnamon
and fulfillment,

the long tapers
of cattails
are bursting and floating away
over
the blue shoulders

of the ponds,
and every pond,
no matter what its
 name is, is

nameless now.
Every year
everything
I have ever learned

in my lifetime
leads back to this: the fires
and the black river of loss
whose other side

is salvation
whose meaning
none of us will ever know.
To live in this world

you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it

against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to
let it go,
to let it go.

All About Pink

I'm sharing some excitement today!
I just learned from my little 'rolling stone',
that in mid-March, 2015,
we'll be hugging a sweet little bundle of  PINK!!

My Beautiful Buck

I've watched his velvet disappear.
And then he showed up with this.
Hunting season is never pretty.
He seems OK in spite of his wound.
I hope  he has good health.

His Velvet Coat

.

This handsome buck stops by
to gather some seed
and share his beauty.
He's shy and timid.
And beautiful.
He has lost his velvet.
I hope to photograph that soon.
He ran off this morning before I could get him.

Happy Monday!

Sunshine On A Stem

This little blossom,
well, it's really not little,
is one of my favorite photos from
the Summer of 2014.
In my limited travels
to and from,
here and there,
I notice flowers.
It always excites me
when the conditions are ripe
and I have my camera in tow.
And I have time to stop!
I love flowers.
I love sunflowers.
I've seen many different varieties
popping up around here this year.
Yellow, Auburn, Copper and Gold.
This one is just beginning
to spread her wings.
"Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you."
~Maori proverb

Destination High Point

I managed to sneak in a ride yesterday.
Late afternoon.
It felt invigorating and therapeutic.
And colorful.
And scenic.
The roads were quiet.
My focus was clear.
No distractions.
Except for the beauty
of nature
and
the bike in front of me.
The person in control.
My soul mate.
I'm blessed.
Happy Wednesday, my friends!
With love and hugs.

Hello Again!

Wow!
I feel so lazy for not having posted
on this little blog of mine
in such a long time!
I don't have an excuse.
I guess life took over.
I mean work.
Or Summer.
I've missed it.
I hope some of my old faithful readers
return and enjoy
my little story.
This first day of Autumn
is a tad bittersweet.
Sunny, warm, and crisp.
A tease.
One thing I missed most this past Summer
was the abundance of butterflies.
They were few and far between.
"There is nothing in a caterpillar
that tells you it's going to be a butterfly."
~R. Buckminster Fuller

With love and hugs.

So Long, July!

You were on the cool side this year, July,
But still you were able to bring about your
usual sunshine, color and love.
July is one of my favorite months, and these
photos sort of tell the story why.
Thank you!
See you next year!

Saturday in June.
Pink and yellow and white.
With a blue sky and 2 wheels.
Green all around us. Quiet roads.
Happy hearts.

Next Time

"Next time what I'd do is sit at
the earth just before saying anything. I'd stop
just before going into a house
and be an emperor for a minute
and listen better to the wind
or the air being still.

When anyone talked to me, whether
blame or praise or just passing time,
I'd watch the face, how the mouth
has to work, and see any strain, any
sign of what lifted the voice.

And for all, I'd know more--the earth
bracing itself and soaring, the air
finding every leaf and feather over
forest and water, and for every person
the body glowing inside the clothes
like a light.

a little more poetry to it,
a little more dance to it."

Silent Spring

If you logged on to "Google" today,
you would have seen a tribute.
Today is the anniversary of the birthday
of Rachel Louise Carson.
As an environmentalist, she documented
the detrimental effects of commercial pesticides
on the environment; particularly birds, as early as 1940.
In 1950 she turned her attention to conservation, and the
problems caused by synthetic pesticides.
Her book  Silent Spring  led to a nationwide ban on DDT,
and inspired an environmental movement that led to the creation
of the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Her efforts allow me the pleasure of
 observing the Bluebirds that
visit the little house every Spring.
They are simply spectacular!
Birthday Love to her!

Deep within the forests and woodlands
during the deep, cold Winter months that have just passed,
there is an  abundance of color and fragrance
just waiting to burst and surprise us.
