Once In a Blue Moon

It's a rather rare occasion
typically every 20 years,
that we experience
one month
with a double dose
of a full moon.
December 2009
is one of those rare occasions.
A Blue Moon.
And I don't mean the beer!
The last "Blue Moon"
on New Year's Eve
happened in 1990.
So, tonight if you
are not blinded by the snow,
or partying too hard to remember,
take a peek at a gift from Mother Nature.
Northern Utah is expected to have clear skies
with the blue moon visible!
What about
a trip to Utah?
No? OK,...
On second thought,
what about a frosty "Full Moon" lager
to cheer the Blue Moon?!
If you get a chance
be sure to check
the "Blue Moon Brewing Co."
website for a countdown
to a rare occasion!

Be safe, be warm, be kind.

"One
kind word
can warm
three
winter months."

Birthday Girl

So, to earn her living
this kid heals hearts.
And when she sings,
she steals hearts!
And, she stole
my brother's heart.
long time ago. In college.
And, today is this kid's
Birthday!
She's Kim.
and,
She's a lefty.
Who likes to laugh
and sing
and sip tea in the afternoon
and knit pretty things
She's a pianist and
a baker.
Did I say she sings?
And, She sews
Halloween costumes.
And,
She digs black sweaters
with blue jeans.
And Yoga
and a new Latin dance form!
And she sends nice cards
and they arrive on time.
And she digs buttery leather
and sterling silver.
And her 3 youngin's.
And her porch.
And her deck.
And perfect weather
In Summer.
So today as we celebrate you,
Hope you can
Kick back, relax and enjoy
your day..
before you polish up
those skis
and head for the slopes!
I hope
your '09 Birthday
is your finest yet!
Love and Hugs,
Missin' you...

Sir James

After the war
this kid met a girl.
At a parade.
A Saint Patty's Day Parade.
They fell in love.
He was James, she Alice.
And today
we celebrate James.
His life led him to
a Firehouse,
and the building trade,
the human service sector,
and he earned his PHD
in love....
For his 4 punks, and
his 8 Grand Punks.
He demanded shirts with pockets
to hold his cigs.
He liked his Silver Bullets.
And Scotch and Water.
And Tierney's.
And ice cream and spaghetti.
(but not together!)
And home made shortbread.
And, his adoring Mother.
And he loved the Green Bay Packers.
And Dunkin's.
And his main squeeze....
Like no man could.
And he had just about
every disease known to man!
But he fought.
And he fought hard.
We lost him way too soon.
1991, at Thanksgiving.
So, as we celebrate the birth of Sir James,
we are reminded of his immeasurable love
for his wife, his children, his grandchildren
and anyone who needed a lending hand.
Thank You, Dad
With my unending love,
Lin xo

Across The Lands

As Christmas unfolds
in homes and hearts
across the world,
we become united
as one.
To the sad and lonely
my wish is for Hope.
To the young at heart
my wish is for Magic.
To those less fortunate
my wish is for a bright future.
To those who sacrifice
I extend to you my sincere thanks.
And to my family
near and far,
present and past,
Thank you for your Love.
Happy Christmas!
With Love to All,

Happy Winter!

So today we join
and we enjoy the passing
of the shortest day
of the year.
A beautiful new season unfolds.
Take a nature walk,
toss your fears and pain into
the fireplace
or the waterfall.
Follow your heart.
Share who you are.
And you'd better not pout!

Sugar 'n Spice

She's everything nice!
And today...
is this kid's Birthday!
She's Casey. Star Boop.
Mother Nature.
She's my niece, way up North.
She's so darn adorable.
And, she digs horses.
And she wins ribbons.
Lots of ribbons.
Tons of ribbons.
She's the college dressage champ.
Captain Casey.
And she digs cowboy boots,
And snowboards,
And surfboards,
And Starbucks and Ships.
She's an artist, and
She's an athlete.
She runs marathons.
And she has a voice
that will rise above the mountains
And a sense of humor
that will brighten
your darkest day.
And she drives a cool car
with a beautiful smile!
So today we celebrate you, Case...
Happy Birthday!
With Love and hugs,
From your Jersey Fan Club xo

A Night of Elegance

Saturday Night was the celebration
of Christmas for the notably talented
crew of "Touch of Elegance" florist.
A special lady that we all call
"Linda 2", or sometimes, "Birdie"
outdid herself once more!
From the decor extraordinaire
to the fabulous food and drink,
it was a night we will long remember!
This little sign was a gift
from a special little lady we know as Trish.
She's another Motorcycle Mama, and flower lady!
Thank you, Trish...I love it!
And thank you also to everyone...
to Cara and Amanda,
to Richard,
to Kenny & Co.,
to Erin and Ryan,
and of course, to the
exceedingly talented Lisa and Mike
who's combined visions and talents rock
the world of events with flowers!!
You can find them at:

I love you guys!
Happy Monday!

Melody and Her Pal, Tim

Throughout our lifetime
many choices are made
and many paths are chosen.
Bridges are crossed,
and the rivers keep flowing.
Friends are made
and friends let go,
But Love is everlasting.

Today, on this 6th day of December,
Melody, our true friend
and most dedicated companion
of 16 years
crossed life's finish line.

With special thanks
on this sad Sunday
to veterinarian Kenny Leal
for opening his door and his heart.

December's Flower...

Fill your house,
Clip one for your hair,
and enjoy the brilliance
of the Pointsettia flower.
Named after Joel Roberts Pointsett,
he was the 1st US minister
to Mexico,
and he introduced the plant to
America back in 1828.
It is indigenous to
Mexico and Guatemala.

Whisper of December

here is the deepest secret
nobody knows.
here is the root of the root.
and the bud of the bud.
and the sky of the sky.
of a tree called life.
which grows higher
than
the soul can hope
or the mind can hide
and this is the wonder
that keeps the stars apart,
for i carry
your heart with me.

Goodbye November and Happy Birthday!

As November turns her page
and becomes December,
we are treated to a gift
from Mother Nature tonight.
A "Full Beaver" Moon.
Named by Native Americans
in the eastern and northern US,
each month carries a moon name.
The Full Beaver Moon
was a reminder to set beaver traps now,
before the swamps froze,
to ensure a supply of warm winter furs.
Maybe a great day
to purchase some fanciful UGGS,
or better yet...FRYES!!

We also honor a Birthday today.
Samuel Langhorne Clemens.
His quote reads:
"Everyone is a moon,
and has a dark side
which he never
shows to anybody."
Born in 1835, his pen name
is Mark Twain.
So, I hope you
enjoy the Moon,
and Happy Birthday to Mark Twain.
Love,
Linda
P.S. One more thing...

Why Am I Here?

"Who wants to become
a writer? And why?
Because it's the answer
to everything.
To "Why am I here?".
To uselessness.
It's the streaming reason
for living.
To note, to pin down,
to build up, to create,
to be astonished at nothing,
to cherish the oddities,
to let nothing down the drain,
to make something,
to make a great flower
out of life,
even if it's a cactus."

Enid Bagnold
1889-1981

Take A Look..

So, take a look if you will.
In the right hand corner
of this photo
you'll see a little lady
hanging from an ornament hook.
And, if you look really close,
maybe even on a double click,
you'll see some "Scorpio".
So yes, she was a birthday gift to me.
I've had her for a few years.
She's from my little Scorpio girl.
One Scorpio to another.
I still remember opening her!
So, this year this Scorpio
opened a new gift.
An exciting new toy!
Except, for right now,
it's far from a toy.
It's a Nikon...
And it's kinda scary.
And this is the very first picture
that I took,
raw from the camera.
No practice, no edit.
Camera right out of the box!
From me to you.
I hope you like it.
And...
If only I could stop smiling,
and forget about staring at this one,
(remembering that very first camera moment)
They're might be more to come!

Hope

so does hope."

How Sweet the Sound...

...was this kid's voice!
Her beautiful Scottish brogue
Her soft blue eyes
Her loving touch
She baked a luscious shortbread
And, she loved to knit and sew
And sip tea in the afternoon
And today we celebrate her Birthday!
She's Nanny.
My Dad's Mom.
She sang at my wedding,
but she never held my youngest.
She loved the piano,
and sang her little heart out!
She was the queen of solitaire.
Her hands were always busy.
And she hugged you oh so tight.
She was soft spoken
with a loud love message.
Throughout her 99 years
she kindled the heart of
everyone she met.
Her best friend was Jessie Goldie.
So, today we celebrate you, Nanny..
You've long passed to heaven,
but you've never left my heart.
You are Amazing Grace.
With much love,
Lin xo
Happy Birthday!

Party On!

So, her Birthdays always lasted more than one day,
and she shares the celebration this weekend.
This other kid is Lynn.
They met in Australia,
they stayed connected,
and they share a place
called home.
Happy Birthday, Lynnie!!

It's Party Time!
Get out the balloons and streamers...
cake and ice cream....
confetti and champagne,
'cuz today..
is this kid's Birthday!!
Nestled warm in a 3rd floor apartment
in the heart of Boston
far from the reaches of my hugs,
is my first born sprout.
She's Tiff.
She's in grad school. Well, really,
Law School.
She's kinda smart.
She works hard non the less.
She's witty and clever.
She's pretty.
She likes to bake;
And mix it by hand.
Ask her about Mother Catherine sometime.
She enjoys grueling workouts
at the gym.
She runs.
Far.
She bikes.
Far.
She digs shoes.
And boots.
Not cowboy boots.
She likes fun tops and flip flops,
and earrings.
She likes to read
and laugh out loud.
And daffodils and tulips.
And Starbucks and lobster.
and the Court of Law.
We'll be missin' you, baby...
your party table is bare,
but the memories fill the room with rainbows.
So today, whether you kick back, or kick box,
enjoy your 26th year!
Keep smiling, keep safe,
and....if you don't catch a rainbow,
May your sunset be as exciting
as your spirit within...
Happy Birthday, Tiff!
Double hugs and kisses xo

Light up the Night

Hummingbirds to horses
She's wise to their ways.
She's an animal rescue
Veteran.
Animals are her passion.
Seasoned and steady,
She'll take 'em in,
love 'em up,
then find them a good home.
She's dedicated.
She nests in North Carolina.
She's my little sister.
And, today is HER Birthday!
She's a Jersey girl gone South.
She gallivants the highways
in search of the sun
all the while singin' and smilin'!
She digs new sneakers and sweatshirts.
Cabernet is in her cup
and John Mellencamp
is in her soul.
She's an early riser
who loves to dance!
So, Nan, in honor
of this whale of a Birthday,
Let loose,
Kick up Your Heels,
and have yourself a blast...

Reflecting the Good Life...

I had a seisure yesterday morning.
My first.
I hope my last.
So, I've been thinkin'.
I'm lookin' back.
I came to this place
a long time ago.
Sixteen years
to be exact.
I was a newbie.
Adopted.
I'm 100% mutt.
I'm Melody.
It's been a pretty good ride.
Most of the time.
Except.... when I got hit by a car.
Sprayed by skunks.
Lost in the forest.
Shot by a porcupine.
Never was able to catch those
darn bears.
Holy cow, I tried.
Scared the living daylights out o' the folks!
I clipped a few squirrels though.
Many chipmunks too!
I miss my friend Samantha.
And Max.
I miss those awesome soccer games.
I always played defense.
Except when I dribbled!
I miss running.
All those miles.
I can remember the feeling.... "YES"!!!!
the leash!!...
...They're taking ME!!
Yeah, I'm old now.
really old.
I'm tired.
But I'm OK,
I'm just holdin' on.
Just holdin' on.
Keepin' an eye
on my land.
