This Little Light of Mine

We had company this weekend.
My Sister-In-Law and her daughter
were with us after they dropped
her boy off at camp.
A grief camp known as
Comfort Zone Camp.

A non-profit that specializes
in care for grieving children.

We attended the closing ceremony today.
There was clapping and cheering..
Singing and dancing.
Testimonials and memorials.
Tears and fears tossed into the bonfire.
Children of all sizes, all ages,
all backgrounds, all with one common trait.
Sadness and loss.
It's a place for kids to come and smile.
To form new friendships, and to laugh out loud.

The theme of the weekend was "Lighthouses".
The kids painted a keepsake to help guide them
through life's "storms".
Teamed up with "buddies" the kids
weathered their own storms.
They shared their fears, and their tears.
They were helped and they were healed.

As I sat in the audience
with tears running down my cheeks,
I was reminded once more
of the fragility of life.

At the final closing circle,
all of the campers released a balloon
with a message to their loved one.

With a special thank you to Adam.
Let your lite shine.
